How We Met

Our story began in Tampa, Florida, in the summer of 2021. We both decided to attend a three-day conservative political conference in Tampa. Chris was on an unexpected leave from the Army while Emily was on summer break between freshman and sophomore years at Clemson University. At registration for the conference, we were introduced thanks to a Facebook group of other attendees who were there by themselves and had agreed to meet up. We got to know one another that week, and by the end of the conference, Chris asked Emily to take a romantic walk by the water on the hotel pier. After talking together for three hours, Emily asked Chris for his phone number.

We have loved each other “long-distance” ever since. The week after we met in Tampa, Chris’s brother, Alec, happened to be playing baseball in Emily’s hometown of Acworth, Georgia. Chris invited Emily to the game, where she met his mom, Sandi. A few days later, Chris drove back to Acworth with a bouquet of flowers and met Emily’s parents, Ben and Angel, before taking her on a picnic and seeing around Acworth. As the fall approached, we made plans to drive to visit each other in Clemson, South Carolina, and Fort Bragg, North Carolina. And the rest is history… in January 2023, Chris got down on one knee, and Emily said “yes!” before he even had time to pop the question. (He did, of course).
